Raita Recipe - A Primal Recipe from our Indian Banquet Menu

This Raita Recipe is not paleo, but is certainly suitable for those who follow a more Primal diet, as it contains live yogurt.

Raita is a very simple sauce or dip that, because it contains dairy, works better than water or beer to counteract the hot spices so often found in curries.

You will almost always find a serving of it alongside any Indian meal, and take aways will generally provide it as part of the delivered meal too.

It only contains 3 ingredients and whips up in just moments.


If you are ok with yogurt then we definitely recommend you give it a go. Most of our family don't like cucumbers, but we all really enjoyed the contrast of flavour that this dish offered.

Raita Recipe - Nutritional Info

This Raita recipe could not be more simple. It is a perfect mouth cooler for serving with hot and spicy curry dishes such as those in our Paleo Indian Banquet Menu from creativelypaleo.com

This recipe contains just 3 ingredients: cucumber, live yogurt and mint.

Cucumber is a great source of vitamins C, K and B6, as well as providing you with thiamin, folate, pantothenic acid, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, copper and manganese.

Live yogurt adds in some zinc, B12, calcium, and riboflavin, not to mention plenty of the good bacteria that is essential to good gut health.

Mint is a great digestive aid, though is unlikely to have much impact in the small quantities in this dish.

Ingredients - serves 4 - 6

  • 1/2 cucumber
  • 1 cup natural yogurt
  • 1/2 tsp dried mint or 1 tbsp chopped fresh mint

Instructions

  1. Peel and de seed the cucumber.
  2. If you like chunks of cucumber then cut it into small pieces, alternatively blend it with an immersion blender until smooth and lump free.
  3. Mix the cucumber and mint into the yogurt and stir carefully.

Serve with a sprig of coriander /cilantro and our Indian Banquet Menu.
