Coffee Alternatives for a Paleo Diet

Many people following a paleo diet drink coffee; there are studies which show that coffee drinking carries many health benefits, but this family stays away from it for a variety of reasons. We do like a couple of coffee alternatives though, and we will share our favourites with you in coming weeks, as there are only a few that are suitable for those who want a truly paleo or gluten free alternative as many contain barley and other grains.

Herbal Tea

Mostly we drink tea, lots and lots of tea (we are English after all!) We have a wide variety of commercially produced herbal teas to choose from in our tea cupboard. Commercial herbal tea bags are a great standby and very convenient for popping in your handbag or pocket when you are out and about, but you just can't beat making your own from scratch. It really doesn't get much more primal than going into the wilds (or your garden) and picking fresh herbs and pouring hot water onto them to bring out the gentle flavours and plant botanicals.

We will show you how to create your own teas from scratch: how to make a simple infusion with fresh herbs; the best ways to dry your herbs; and how to make your own herbal tea blends to suit your mood.

Weeds as Herbs

Here at Creatively Paleo we are currently transitioning between homes and so we don't have a herb garden right now (but really, this is a poor excuse, as a window sill herb garden is easy to create and maintain). We do however have ready access to a plethora of 'weeds'!

A weed is just a plant that society has decided is unwanted, ugly and out of place; but weeds are often incredibly good for us.

Spring is the perfect time to gather the young, fresh leaves of some incredibly nutritious plants - Dandelions, Nettles and Wild Garlic are just 3 of the most simple and easy to identify without any bother.

Fermented drinks are great! Full of health promoting bacteria they are literally fizzing with health. We have Kombucha scobies, Water Kefir and Dairy Kefir grains (not strictly suitable for those following a strict Paleo diet obviously, but gluten free and we think the health benefits are worthwhile) and deliciously explosive Ginger Beer scobies.

We will show you how to use and take care of all these living organisms and of course we will share our favourite recipes.

Our Top Gadgets - Toys for Teamakers

You don't really need any gadgets to make the most of our healthy drink recipes - you couldn't get much less technical than popping some freshly picked leaves into a pot of just boiled water! But we love a gadget here at Creatively Paleo so here are our top picks that make drinking herbal teas a real all round delight.
