How do gluten free desserts feature in a paleo website? First of all, all of our puddings classify as paleo, but more than that is that, for us, paleo is a lifestyle, it's not a diet in the standard understanding of the word.
We want to maintain a long term healthy lifestyle that benefits our minds as well as our bodies, and that includes working clean treats into our diet.

The idea of scarcity tends to lead to a psychological need to hoard; if you make a decision to deny yourself something that feels good, chances are your mind and body will work very hard to get you to give it what it wants. Your brain will start sending out signals in the form of cravings, and they can be very hard to resist.
Often cravings are a sign that our body is lacking something - for instance after 20 years of being a strict vegetarian, I developed intense cravings for fish and beef. It was quite some time before I listened to my body, but when I did, my health improved quite dramatically (no more expensive iron supplements for starters). Obviously many modern cravings are nothing more than an addict brain's need for a dopamine hit, so if you're craving haribo sweets or doritos, chances are it's more about a chemical desire than a healthful indicator of what your body needs!
One of the main points of a paleo diet is to reduce insulin spikes which it is thought are behind a lot of our modern diseases. Sugary foods and starchy carbohydrates are out of the door if you want to get your body back to its best self. Over time your taste buds will change - often over quite short periods of time. Things you previously found bland and perhaps almost bitter beofre, will, as your tastebuds recover from years of abuse, now appear vibrant and naturally sweet. The super sweet treats you formerly loved will repulse you and leave you feeling like you've just downed a can of syrup. You will naturally taste more of nature's sweetness, but sometimes...
Well, sometimes you want to bake your children a cookie, and let's face it, what would childhood be without the pleasurable memories of a loving crafted birthday cake? For many children who have been diagnosed with celiac disease, nut allergies or dairy allergies, they can feel a real sense of missing out when their friends are all tucking into a yummy cake or other treat, and it would be counter productive and somewhat cruel to deny them the occasional treat.
It's not just small children who don't feel a birthday celebration is complete without a birthday cake and candles.
Even 17 year old bassists and guitarists need to feel celebrated at least once a year.
What better way than when they can tuck into a lovingly created paleo dessert chocolate cake and make a wish blowing out the candles, before the fire brigade are called out...
It's not just children though, let's be honest. Sometimes nothing is more soothing than a bowl of chocolatey, gluten free dessert goodness, whatever your age!
They say that the road to ruin is paved with good intentions, and nothing could be more ruinous than setting yourself up for a lifetime of denial. I know, I've done it. I've tried all manner of weight loss diets over the years and they never last - I lose a bit of weight if I'm lucky, but it all piles back on afterwards plus an extra little bit. Since following a paleo lifestyle, which includes the odd paleo desserts, I have dropped almost 4 dress sizes and KEPT IT OFF! I don't feel deprived and that is a huge psychological barrier to success removed!
All of which is a pretty long winded way of explaining how gluten free desserts fit into this website, but we hope it has proved insightful. Of course our recipes are designed to be treats not everyday fare, but they are made with healthy and whole ingredients - raw cacao powder for instance is a powerhouse of goodness, packed with magnesium - how fabulous is that when nearly every single person on the planet now suffers with magnesium deficiency?
So much ancestral wisdom is out there if we just took it to heart - take for instance the saying "A little of what you fancy does you good". The key words there being "a little"! Enjoy - life is meant to be fun, and it is definitely fun to enjoy delicious treats; it's not fun to become addicted to them and lose our health in the pursuit of unhealthy desires.
Without further ado... here are some truly tantalising gluten free desserts that will be fine to serve up to adults or children (all have been tested by my children ranging in age from 4 to 17). Every one is a Paleo dessert, they are also fine for those with celiac disease, nut allergies and dairy allergies.
